SITARO
SITARO is an amazing place that offers multiple tourist attractions such as incredible white sand beaches, active volcano, hot springs, great seafood and lots of incredible views amazing ocean life. Sitaro Islands is located off the northern extremity of Sulawesi Island in the southern Sangihe Islands, North Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. The main island is Siau, while further south (nearer Sulawesi) are Tagulandang and Biaro.
There are 48 dive spot around Siau Tagulandang and Biaro islands the last 10 dive spot are relatively new and the discoveries continues. Maybe you’ll be the one who found it and give names on it.
Diving is one of the best activities to do in Siau Island. The water is deep with trenches of ocean. The current around those island brings nutritious water and also plankton. The marine life is quite impressive with numbers of species. The clear blue color can rightly be seen from the beach. The muck / macro diving in Siau’s main east coast and north harbour area famous with its species which will brought fantastic results for your photo collection.
Siau is famous for friendly people, a quiet town, the hot springs, the endemic Siau Tarsier & the Karangetang active volcano also Heart Shaped love Lake in nearby island of Makalehi. Be amazed when you are cruising to from those islands sometimes you can see Dolphin.
The West Coast of Siau has walls and loads of fish life. There is a wreck at 40m and a spectacular point covered in hard coral annd after each dive on the west coast, you may soaking or swimming the hot springs that flows from the active volcano. The west coast area has just as many macro critter species as in Lembeh, better visibility, no crowds and the bonus of natural hot springs, wall dive and wreck diving.
TRANSPORTATION
Two ferries connect the island of Tagulandang with Manado. The fast ferry Takes 4-5 hours to Siau. Majestic Kawanua, departs every day at 9:30 from the harbor of Manado, except Sundays that it departs at 11:00. The slow ferry departs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from Manado harbor at 17:00. The ferries stop at Tagulandang on the way and continue to Tahuna on Sangihe island.
It is rather remote area as it takes 7-8 hours by slow ferry from Manado to get there – these islands are very close to the Philippines Be aware that the weather conditions during the monsoon season (end of October – early April) can be a lot worse than around Manado – rough seas and large amounts of rain are common.
